Anyone know an online research service
Does anyone know a good online research service? I briefly used highbeam.com - however that site seems to be no longer working.
I'd love to use an online database that holds full reprints of old articles. Highbeam was brilliant for this. If they're going out of business then I'll miss them.

How to set up a home wireless network
If you're ever looking to create a home wireless network, here are the steps:
1. Get a wirless router - I highly recommend the Belkin Pre-N model which is 8 times faster and up to 3 times the range of other models.
2. At present time, in the UK, the Belkin Pre-N model is stated to work only with Cable and DSL not ADSL. Not so. Regardless of what the Belkin Pre-N support guys tell you it DOES work with ADSL - mine does. Here's what to do: Go out and buy the D-Link DSL-300T Ethernet ADSL modem. That's whats working for me as I type this through my ADSL supplier.
3. Set up the router (and new model if you're on ADSL).
4. Now that you're all set up physically and wirelessly, its time to set up the network.
Identify the IP address of the main desktop machine - command: ipconfig, and read the first ip address. Do the same on the laptop or other wireless machine. Now on the desktop, ping the laptop: command ping laptop-ip-address and do the same thing the other way round.
You should get a feedback message. If not you have an firewall on either machine. Take em off - the wireless router has a hardware firewall on it, much better than a software one. Trust me, take it off, you'll be fine.
5. That's the hardest bit done. Now that the 2 computers are talking to one another you need to setup the software network on XP. There are several steps to do this and this document will explain all (provided you run XP on all machines - if you don't navigate to other documents nearby on this site: Here's the link to the document: Go to http://support.microsoft.com and look for document 814003 - type this into the search box on the left.
That document will take you to the end of the process. Good luck.

Site changes coming...
OK, I realize I've not been posting here in a while. I also realize the reason why.
The reason is that this started as a kind of internet marketing blog and you know something - I don't really care to write about that.
With internet marketing the only thing I care about is making money not talking.
So I'm going to be moving this blog over to a private site. What you'll see here from now are my private, personal ramblings to myself.

Domain registration
Register-spot is a good domain registration site. Its own by my friend an associate.
Currently they have domain regs for 7.95 per year - for dot com. Not bad. That's a saving of between 90c - $5 on other registrars.
Another one I like is namecheap - they slightly more expensive but highly efficient in the way they work.

He says it has 98% accuracy for blocking spam from his inboxes. Awesome.

Confidential ramblings on the Page Rank manifesto
OK, well I read the page rank book.
What did I learn?
That Page Rank is a multiplier of on page factors. And that first, the important things are:
Getting in the index for any page factors
Getting in the index on ANY engine
Linking, inwardly in an efficient way
Efficient linking means having more links pointing inwardly than out on any page
Hierarchial linking means to point more links at certain limited pages
The AEmpire strategy mainly involves pointing links to the home page of the site. Although from the diagram, it implies that the machine generated page sitemap will have the highest PR which will then be passed exclusively to the home page(s)
I'm almost ready to get started.
Furthermore, the AE empire strategy implies passing this Highly raised internal PR from a number of sites, to the Highly Valuable end-result site - the Home site, the destination. From looking at this I wonder if this strategy is too risky?
Furthermore the Blog site (as blog sites do) will conserve PR and pass that high range of PR to the home page with anchor text. This PR can then be passed on, in a limited way to an external site via the home page template.
Thus blogs conserve PR.
Certain article sites can be the recipients of this vast blog PR, particularly if the article site conserves Page Rank via home page to only-sitemap linking
So what does it all come back to?
It comes back to - that if you can generate a great deal of content for a single market then you will do better. The better approach or idea is to split your great content across multiple sites working in concert. But the problem you'll still find - and especially with content-hungry blogs is - that you could run into "supply" problems. Or am I just limiting myself here ... ?
On the other hand is the fact that a market is NOT explored with one day of keyword research on Wordtracker, in fact a market consists of many sub markets or niches.
So the single site that we could create and explore is actually just part of a single "channel" of a greater or smaller market. You're in that market and truly, in that market you should stay and play on.
It is this "related market" opportunity which is overlooked all the time, that makes it more sensible for the marketer to follow the multiple site and cluster strategy that is laid out by the AE manifesto. So thanks be to it huh?
You see, every site, has the ability to (a) make money on its own (b) help related sites make money. Every one can and always does this.
That is a way to justify fully the extra work of site creation in ANY profitable or even a not so profitable niche.

Updating spam blocker....
A spammer with the words "Texas Holdem" got through and posted several comments with that phrase in the title. I'm suprised MT blacklist didn't detect and delete that automatically. To be fair, it did force comment moderation on that phrase.
I think I'll now include a rule blocking all posts with that phrase.

Is it time to buy Google shares?
Theres an essential post on Jensense about the recent Adsense forum hosted by Google.
Its hard to believe that Adsense has only been around for 2 years; the Google guys appear to be pushing it hard.
If you read the article you'll see they don't object to you creating a content site just for Adsense anymore.
I swear that Google is going to make a SCARY FORTUNE this year.
When you think that they partnering with some of the cleverest, most able and motivated people today - Internet Marketers... Well that alone ought to make them a lasting fortune.
You see, when you consider the power of networks ... and providing a single-owned product through a replicating network ... why the potential for income is limitless.
Do you see that?
If they stay on track and don't fall prey to competitors, their potential for earning is HUGE. Fueled by the ethical, most powerful fuels of all: Profit sharing and motivated self interest.

Great Linking Advice - Awful Ugly Webpage
This a webpage with good "insider" info about creating a great linking campaign.
He (or she) adds a few ideas that I never thought of before such as getting your site a review on Amazon.
Well worth reading.
It also happens (at the time of writing) to be one of the ugliest web pages I've seen.
Ugly page with lots of good linking information.

Computer Speech Recognition Has Already Arrived
I discovered by accident that computer speech recognition of the type seen in Star Trek has already arrived.
Its in the form of software called Dragon Naturally Speaking by a corp called Scansoft.
I bought it from Amazon yesterday and am awaiting delivery. While I do so, I'll be reading this free online book about Dragon Naturally Speaking.
Far better than any product manual it shows you, from joy and experience, how to get the best out of speech recognition for permanently changing your working life.

Master ALL New PC Security Threats
If you're having doubts about the security of your PC, Adrian Ling's book on PC security and spyware is one you'll definitely want to look at.
Its worth every cent of its cost - Covers the spyware threat in all its new forms and leads you to 8 or more programs - all of which are free. (example: is the AVG virus checker which is better than most stuff we pay for).
I judge that this to be the comprehensive modern book on securing your PC (and one that most marketers will need).
According to rumour, Bill Gates found spyware on his machine. Most people have spyware - Its no big deal, so I thought - It was a problem I felt I could postpone tackling.
But the thing that got me worried recently is the news that keyloggers (key stroke loggers) are spreading on the internet. The thought of someone stealing my credit card number or worse my Google Adsense password made me slightly more cautious when using my own PC recently.
So the release of this book was very timely for me.
The book will take you around 2 hours of reading. After that its about 3 hours of PC work to do the suggested steps.
The only drawback to the book, and spyware in general, is that you can no longer do the job of security in a single step. Full security now takes time.
Beat the spyware menace for good.
Good luck and Safe Web Surfing
