Seriously noisy Spanish internet cafes
This must be the world´s noisiest internet cafe. I almost can´t hear myself think.
This is a sort of Spanish internet cafe. But the only thing preventing this from being a disco are flashing strobe lights.
The woman behind the counter looked as if she´d just as happily kill me as show me the computers. Maybe the music was driving her crazy. Why else would she be in such a bad mood?
There was not a computer in sight. "Internet cafe?" I said, speaking slowly to be helpfully clear in my English. Many people don´t speak English here.
"How long" she said. I didn´t get that. Clearly she didn´t understand. I repeated the question. "How long" she repeated. Ah, now I got it, so this was an internet cafe.
3 Euros for the hour seemed reasonable.
The "cafe" is a row of computers sitting on a desk next to a snooker table and many arcade games.
If you never realized arcade games are noisy, try typing next to one of them. Right now I hear: game theme-music of different kinds, machine gun fire, a spooky voice, a repetitive sound like a car being smashed, and above and behind it all, what sounds like a French rap track.
But this may well be the only internet cafe in Calleta da Fuste, the charming town on the island of Fuertaventura that we are staying in. This is an island known for its round the year sun; its white sandy beaches, but probably not for internet cafes.
The girl sitting next to me is a local, she´s no more than 14 and she speaks Spanish to her buddy. This must really be the local internet-cafe-place.
If I don´t develop epilepsy, I may be back for more.
Tomorrow: how to beat keylogger software in internet cafes.
