Blogs Get Even More Respect in 2004
Mena and Ben Trott co owners and co creators of Movable Type were named People of the Year 2004 by PC magazine according to this post at Mena's Corner.
Recently I've been discovering how influential blogs have become in society. 2 posts ago I wrote about how Bloggers were runners up to George Bush for Time Magazine's Person of the Year 2004 award.
The creation of Movable Type is a heck of a story with Mena and Ben building this tool on their own - initially with very little capital.
Today, Movable Type is the most popular tool used for standalone blogs - with over 80% of this "market" by some accounts.
I was introduced to Movable Type by a top SEO who explained that it is the best blog tool from an SEO standpoint. People don't seem to know this. Unlike some other blog tools, Movable Type makes each post its own unique page, with its own unique title, which means more traffic. User comments can also be made to be standalone pages. With MT, your post's URL can include the keywords you are targetting. Through the MT templates, site-wide changes can be made with little effort. MT can also be configured into a user forum allowing site visitors to create your content.
The only downside is that you need to take time to learn the MT template system and also CSS. But CSS is going to be helpful in all of your web design efforts in future. I haven't regretted learning it.
This tool can also be used to create 'conventional', static-looking websites - I know a couple of people who use Movable Type as a normal site creation tool - SEORadio is one example.
