Affiliate Marketing is Dead?

I just read an article on Brad Fallon's website proclaiming the virtues of selling hard goods online.

While I don't particularly like this idea myself I do know that it is an area not pursued my many marketers.

Most of us have been taught to go after info products and software. That's what you're thinking of selling right?

Also, an affiliate marketer I wasn't very impressed at first with Brad's post as it seemed to be knocking the affiliate technique (that may just be my sensitive ego), but you know... something that happened today got me thinking.

I was looking up a couple of keyword niches (for affiliate marketing) on Wordtracker and you know what? I found a popular "real product" niche that did not have half as much competition as you'd get in the popular info-product-type areas.

Affiliate marketers are in the game not just for the money, but for the time freedom. While the pay may not be the highest, the freedom successful affiliate marketing will give you is greater than for other money making technique online.

But professional affiliate marketing IS difficult. It requires you to understand a variety of skills - Search Engine Positioning, Article Writing, Web Design, plus a variety of product knowledge and a willingness to try every online market. Successful affiliate marketers are specialists and generalists.

If time freedom isn't your number one reason for pursuing an online business, you should probably take a look at the possibility of selling hard goods as outlined in Brad's post.
