I'm Moving Off Movable Type
I'm moving off Movable Type. Although I'm originally thought that this was the best tool available, with recent testing I'm rapidly changing my opinion. WordPress, which is completely free offers a bunch of functionality that Movable Type, which costs $97 doesn't!
Examples: (1) You can email a blog post to a Wordpress blog and even to a Blogger blog, but you can't do this with Movable Type. If you're a marketer you might find this kind of post automation important.
(2) Anti spam measures are built into Wordpress but you have to a (fairly tedious) extra install for this on MT. Believe me, you won't want to do this every time you create a blog.
I wish MT and the Six Apart company the best, but I honestly believe that the only thing going for them is their high price. It makes people not realize that in several ways their tool is actually inferior!
Its a bizarre situation when a free tool beats the expensive one but that's what I'm seeing here.
Every good marketer I know uses Wordpress instead of MT and I don't know what took me so long to come around.
Wordpress won the Application of the Year award in 2004. That doesn't necessarily mean much but check out the testimonials on their site.
Anyway, enough said for now.
I'm keeping this weblog on MT cos there's no reason to move, but there's no way I'll use Wordpress on every future blog.
