Powerlinks lures me again… But not for long
Yesterday I was drawn to Powerlinks.com again by some unseen force. I installed it on two sites. But now I’ve thought better of it and decided to withdraw from the service.
For now anyway I will stick to less “power” linking on my sites, as truly don’t really need the kind of “super-boosts” offered by this kind of service.
Right now, I’ve found that I’m getting some very good link boosts from blogs.
A second thing that really put me off was that PL management were making noises about certain kinds of sites being unsuitable – ones with many links. I didn't agree with all their criteria as I sometimes build directory sites which are valid, content rich and useful – but would not necessarily meet some of their critera.
You know, this is like the comment I made about Blogger having a fault and not providing good support. (By the way the blogger email interface is working now, 2 days late). They could give me all the links in the world, but I don’t like really centralized management BS. On the web I avoid it.
So I’m feeling now that I’d rather have my links service on my own server using a script like linksmachine.
But here’s the real reason why I don’t want to use Powerlinks just now.
It violates the "gorilla rule".
In that post I wrote about how, in some ways Google acts like a ten ton gorilla you want to stay clear off – particularly in the way they sometimes (but not always) indiscriminately ban sites.
Powerlinks violates my first rule of dealing with this beast - Don’t travel in packs.
